Hillside Beach Club Unveil an Incredible Line Up of Summer Film Screenings, Film Workshops and Q&As over May Half Term in partnership with the British Film Institute (BFI)

May 2019…// Hillside Beach Club is delighted to announce a further three years of collaboration with the British Film Institute (BFI), bringing classic cinema and film making experiences to the luxury hideaway in Fethiye, Turkey. During May half term 2019 and 2020 and 2021, the BFI will offer specially curated film screenings for guests of all ages, screen talks with the head curator from BFI as well as interactive workshops, where children can get hands on to learn the art of filmmaking from the experts, from script writing through to production.

This year, the BFI Summer Screenings will take place from 26th to 30th May 2019 and will feature comedy classics such as the Blue’s Brothers, as well as children’s favourites Paddington 2, Chicken Run and The Princess Bride. Films will be brought to life by Hillside Beach Club’s live pianist during the Sherlock Jr film screening at Silent Beach. A live brass band will entertain guests at the end of the Blue’s Brothers screening, with the party continuing at Pasha. Each film screening will take place at a unique location from the floating platform to Kayaköy, creating unforgettable experiences and memories. For the grand finale on 30th May, Hillside Beach Club is delighted to be hosting Turkey’s premiere of comedy-drama Stan and Ollie on its iconic beach with a floating screen. It definitely will not be one to miss!

Will Massa, curator of contemporary fiction film at the BFI, will be bringing the films to life with screen talks, giving special insight into the classic film selection curated especially for guests at Hillside Beach Club.

“Hillside’s Summer Screenings series offers audiences the chance to enjoy cinema in extraordinary surroundings. It’s been a real pleasure to pull together a programme of comedy greats for this event and I can’t wait to get back to Turkey to discuss them with film lovers at the resort. If laughter is the best medicine then I’ve no doubt that audiences are going to leave Hillside in the best possible health!” Massa said.

Throughout the long weekend, children at Hillside will be able to take part in BFI workshops, learning every element of the filmmaking process, from production skills, to creative storytelling, script writing as well as prop and costume making. Children will be able to put their new skills to the test, as they will be given the opportunity to create a short comedy, edited by experts from the BFI. Children and their families will then have the chance to sit back, popcorn in hand, and watch the masterpiece they created on the big screen during a celebratory screening on the final day.
